Mary E. Parker, 88, formerly of 45 Lake St., died Wednesday at Loretto Buckley Landing Nursing Home, Liverpool.
Miss Parker taught social studies at Williamson Central School for 30 years, retiring in 1977. She also taught at Candor High School for several years.
Born Sept. 17, 1915, in Pulaski, daughter of Clayton and Anna Bambury Parker, she graduated from Pulaski High School in 1932 and received bachelor's and master's degrees from the Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syracuse University.
She served in the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946 in Washington, D.C., where she kept aviation diaries and wrote about aviation history.
She returned to Pulaski after retiring.
Miss Parker was a member of Pulaski Congregational Church, Robert Edwards American Legion Post 358, Pulaski Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 159 and Women's Civic Club.
She was historian for the town of Richland and village of Pulaski for many years; helped organize Pulaski Day celebrations and the sesquicentennial celebration in 1982, and worked with PROP (Preservation and Revitalization of Pulaski) and the Heritage Foundation on historical preservation in the village of Pulaski.
For many years she wrote the "Way Back When" column for the Pulaski Democrat and later for Salmon River News. She was a recipient of the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge Award and a Fulbright grant for study in Brazil.
Surviving are a niece and her husband, Nancy and Jack Thomas, Pulaski, five great-nieces and two great-nephews.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home with the Rev. James Tschudy officiating. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Donations may be made to Pulaski Historical Society, Maple Avenue, or Robert Edwards American Legion Post 358, Maple Avenue, Pulaski, N.Y. 13142.

Mary E. Parker, age 88, of 45 Lake Street, Pulaski, who was very proud and supportive of her community, died Wednesday at Loretto Buckley Landing Nursing Home, Liverpool. She was born in Pulaski on September 17, 1915, the daughter of Clayton and Anna Bambury Parker. She resided in Williamson for 30 years returning to Pulaski in 1977. She graduated from Pulaski High School in 1932, from Syracuse University with a Bachelors and Masters degree from the Maxwell School. She served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1943 to 1946 in Washington D.C. where she kept aviation diaries and wrote about aviation history. She taught Social Studies at Williamson Central School for 30 years retiring in 1977. She also taught at Candor High School for several years. She was a member of the Pulaski Congregational Church, a member of Robert Edwards Post #358 American Legion in Pulaski, a member of the Pulaski Historical Society, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of OES Chapter #159, Pulaski, a member of the Women's Civic Club and served as the Historian for the Town of Richland and the Village of Pulaski for many years.
