- Mary Dwight - died January 14, 1870, age 21. Daughter of Orrin E. and Annie Wellman Dwight.
Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, January 20, 1870 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Fatal Accident At Orwell - On Friday evening last, a painful accident occurred at Orwell, by which an estimable young lady lost her life. It seems that Miss Dwight, daughter of O. E. Dwight, Esq., of Port Ontario, has been teaching school for some time past at Orwell. On Friday evening Miss D. started from the school house to her boarding place. She was overtaken by an acquaintances who had a load of logs upon a sleigh. He asked her to ride, and as the walking was bad, she accepted. Arrived at a steep hill near Bennett's Bridge and in going down it the neck yoke of the team broke the sleigh slued suddenly, and the load was overturned, the logs falling upon and crushing the young woman in a horrible manner. The driver was not seriously hurt, and immediately summoned help. The logs were removed, but the poor creature under them gasped once or twice and expired. This is a sad case, and has cast gloom over the community, not only in Orwell but in the vicinity of Port Ontario, where the young lady and her family are well known. The body was taken to Port Ontario on Saturday. - Palladium.
