Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, September 11, 1901 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Davis J. Cross, who spent the greater part of his life in the town of Richland, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Salisbury, on Sunday, September 1. He has been in failing health since February from cancer of the face. Mr. Cross was born in Johnstown, New York, June 25, 1821, and came to Oswego County in infancy. His father died when he was two years old and he was adopted into the family of Harley Holmes, of Holmesville. now Fernwood. He was married in 1841 to Mary A. Babcock, of the same place, with two children, Mrs. C. M. Salisbury, of Sandy Creek, and Mrs. Jerome Perry, a Fernwood, survived the husband and father. One son Florence D., Day in Richland in 1882 aged 25 years. Mr. Cross has made his home with his daughter for the past five years. In early manhood he devoted his energies to lumbering and later to farming. He united with the Methodist Church at Richland in 1888 and became a member of the Methodist Church here in 1896 by letter. The funeral was held from the home of Mr. Salisbury Tuesday, Rev. F. K. Knapp officiating. Interment at Richland.
