Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, September 3, 1964 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Rites Held for W. D. Pond, 83 - Last rites for Winfield D. Pond, 83, of Adams Center, a former resident, of Pulaski, were held Wednesday at. 1:30 p.m. at the Reed and Benoit Funeral Home in Watertown. The Rev. Ivan M. Cash of Syracuse, a former pastor of the First Baptist Church in Adams Center, officiated with, burial in Willis Cemetery at Fernwood. Mr. Pond died Saturday evening at the Madonna Home in Watertown where he had been a patient since December 26, 1963. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Doris P.) Benoit, Phoenix; four grandchildren; .a niece, Mrs. Robert E. (Eleanor A.) Walklett of Pulaski who had made her home with Mr. Pond before her marriage. The son of Adelbert and Josephine Manwarren Pond, he was born November 12, 1880, in South Richland. He attended Mexico High School. In August, 1903, Mr. Pond began his career as a telegrapher for the Ontario division of the New York Central Railroad. In 1923 he was transferred to Pulaski, and from 1925 until his retirement in 1945 he was a telegrapher at Adams Center. Mr. Pond married Delia Cross of Pulaski on October 25, 1905. She died at Adams Center in 1943. For seven years after his retirement Mr. Pond was tax collector for the Town of Adams. He was a member of the Adams Center First Day Church, a member and past master of Pulaski Lodge, 415, F. & A. M.; and of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers.
