Husband of Jennie Hurtt Harmes & Arlie Smith Barclay Harmes (married August 27, 1927) & Edna Lafferty Hodder (married February 1, 1933). (Note: At the age of 45, third wife, Edna Lafferty Hodder, committed suicide September 12, 1938 and is buried in Adams, NY)

      Newspaper Obituary - Saturday, May 15, 1945 Oswego Palladium Times - Oswego, New York - Pulaski - Fred Harmes, 66, died Thursday afternoon at his home in Fernwood after a long illness. Born in Sycamore, Illinois, July 7, 1878, the son of Ira and Emma Green Halides, he moved east to Mexico 32 years ago when he engaged in farming until a year ago when he retired because of ill health and moved to Fernwood. He is survived by ten children, Harold, Caledonia; Elroy with the Army in Italy; Myron with the Army in England; Mrs. Ross Nichols, Mexico; Mrs. Arvis Hardy, Elmira Heights; Mrs. Glen Carpenter, Pulaski; Mrs. George Cornwall, Brunswick, Maine; and Misses Ruth, Velma and Freda Harmes of Fernwood, and two brothers, Elmer Harmes, DeKalb, Illinois and Willis Harmes, Sycamore, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at his home on Sunday at 2 p.m. and burial will be in Willis cemetery.
