- Robert Town Gates - June 29, 1813 - December 1, 1892. Son of Elisha and Betsey Town Gates. Husband of Sarah A. Backus & Theresa Parish.
Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, December 8, 1892 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - South Richland - Died at his home in Holmesville Thursday morning, Robert Gates, of more than three score years and ten. Mr. Gates has lived in and near South Richland nearly all his life and had friends without number, indeed he had no enemy. Pleasant and social, he had a good word of cheer and smile for all whom he met and all his ways seemed ways of goodness and wisdom. He was a Christian, serving God with a love which casteth out fear, always in his place on Sunday morning, when consistent. He will be greatly missed. An aged feeble companion survives him, also four sons and five daughters are left to mourn the death and loss of a kind and worthy husband and father, Sewell Gates, Mrs. F. Willis, of South Richland; Mrs. D. B. Wood, of Pulaski; Elisha Gates, of Prattham; Dr. Gates, of Brownville; Mrs. Dr. Heaton, of Baldwinsville; Mrs. Ready, of Brockport. There is another son and daughter in Michigan, I am informed. Funeral services on Saturday at his late residence, burial in the East South Richland cemetery. Rev. Northrup officiated.
