    • Martha Johnson Gillespie - June 8, 1786 - May 27, 1873. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson. Wife of Robert Gillespie.
Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, June 5, 1873 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died in South Richland, May 28th, 1873, at the residence of her son, Robert Gillespie, Mrs. Martha, relict of General Robert Gillespie, in the 88th year of her age. Mrs. Gillespie was born in Middletown, state of Connecticut, in the year 1787. She experienced religion some 42 years ago, when she was baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist church of South Richland, of which she continued a beloved and faithful member until her death. In life she exemplified the power of the Gospel of the Son of God to guide and control her intercourse with the world. She was eminently a constant Christian, a kind, obliging neighbor, a faithful and an affectionate wife, a fond, dotting mother; endearing herself by her manifestations of the graces of a Christian character to all who knew her. She died as she lived in the hope and faith of the Gospel of Christ. Her last illness, which was particularly trying and painful, was borne with Christian patience and fortitude; her mind dwelling on Christ, and her faith resting in him as a "Savior mighty and willing to save." Her funeral was attended at the residence of her son, where she died, by a large concourse of relatives, friends and neighbors, all anxious to show respect to her character, and paying tearful tribute to her memory.
