- Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, March 23, 1898 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Sarah A. Barnes, daughter of Asa and Laura Barnes, was born in Mexico, New York, September 12, 1825, and died at the home of her son, Peyton C. Halsey, near Pulaski, March 16, 1898. She was married to Maltby Halsey, March 14, 1847 and was left a widow in 1866. Five children were born to them, of whom three remain to mourn her loss, Peyton C. Halsey and Mrs. E. C. Conant of Pulaski, and Mrs. C. Norton of Syracuse. She was one of a large family of children of whom but one remains, a brother, Daniel Barnes, of Sherburne, Minnesota. She was converted at an early age, and was remarkable for the simplicity of her marmers, kindness of heart and untiring industry. She was never strong, yet always brave and self-reliant and was thoroughly devoted to her family, her one great object being to make a happy home. The life which continues beyond the gateway of death will have added charms for us since she has passed its shining portals. The funeral services were held at the residence of her son. Rev. A. S. Emmons officiating, speaking words of comfort from Job 5-26. The remains were taken to Primitive cemetery in Mexico for burial. She rests; her work is done.
