John "Jack" Jescavage, 68, of Plains Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday in River Street Manor Nursing Facility, Wilkes-Barre, following an illness.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, on July 2, 1941, and was a son of the late John C. and Florence Steligo Jesikiewicz.
Jack was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1959, and pursued his education in high-voltage electricity. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1959 to 1965.
Jack was employed by Pennsylvania Power and Light Company, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a lineman 1st Class and a trouble man, going out in the most severe weather during and after storms to restore and repair electric lines, transformers and poles.
He enjoyed working outdoors and was an "outdoorsman," hunting and fishing. He was a member of the former St. Joseph Church, Hudson, and was instrumental in restarting his parish's Holy Name Society, where he was a past officer and past-president.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 1600 and a past union steward; Plains Conservation Club; American Legion Post 558, Plains Township; and the Wyoming Valley Detachment of the Marine Corps League.
He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Thomas F. Matushek and James Gregory.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, the former Ruth J. Matushek, at home; sister, Patricia Jesikiewicz Gregory, Morganville, N.J.; son, John J. Jescavage Jr., Swoyersville; daughters, Janine Jescavage, Plains Township; Janet Bellows and her husband, Scott, Howell, N.J.; Joyce Jescavage and her fiance, James Eichhorn, Plains Township; grandchildren, Gambrielle Castaneda, Matthew Debiase, Connor Bellows, Madison Bellows, Abigail Bellows; great-grandson, Amadeus Castaneda; nephews, Brian J. Gregory, Old Bridge, N.J., and Darin J. Gregory of Monroe, N.J.; numerous cousins and relatives.
The funeral for Mr. Jescavage will be conducted on Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Plains Township, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township, with the Rev. Mike Kloton officiating. Interment with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hudson. Friends are invited to attend his viewing today from 3 to 7 p.m.
Memorial donations will be accepted at the funeral home for the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Association.
