      Celia McHugh, 92, of Laflin Road, Laflin, died Wednesday morning in the

      Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, after an illnessBorn in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late John and Victoria Szymanski Slovinski.

      She was a resident of Thomas Street, Miners Mills, most of her life and resided in Laflin for the past 15 years.

      She was formerly employed as a store manager for American Stores Co. and later for the Acme Markets, in the Wilkes-Barre area until her retirement.

      She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre, and its Altar and Rosary Society.

      She was preceded in death by grandson, Emanuel McHugh, on March 26, 1987; several brothers and sisters.

      Surviving are son, Emanuel, North Syracuse, N.Y.; Bernard, Westerville, Ohio; daughter, Dorothy Batok, with whom she resided; brother, Michael Slovinski, Wilkes-Barre; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Plains, with a funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre.

      Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

      Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
