    • Newspaper Obituary - Saturday, July 17, 1993 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Avis Widrig, Ex-Richland Postmaster Dies - Avis D. Widrig, 95, of 7586 Main Street, Richland, died Thursday at her home. Private funeral services will be held Saturday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, with the Rev. Elizabeth. Mowry officiating. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Donations may be made to the Richland Church of Christ or the Half-Shire Historical Society, Richland, New York 13144. She is survived by two sons, George, Richland, and David, Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Phyllis) Robarge, Richland; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Jean Hager, died in 1989. Born in New Centerville, March 6, 1898, the daughter of John and Frances Noyes Donovan, she graduated from Richland Union School and attended Euclid Business School in Brooklyn, graduating in 1915. She worked as the credit manager at the Loeser's and Abraham and Strauss Department Store and returned to Richland in 1918 where she worked as a secretary for Dr. P.D. Bailey and at the Ideal Restaurant in Orwell. She married James E. Widrig April 3, 1920, in Oriskany Falls. He died December 16, 1968. Mrs. Widrig was a postmaster in Richland from 1939 to 1950, was the secretary and a member of the Richland Church of Christ, a member of the town of Richland Board of Elections for many years, a member of the Half-Shire Historical Society in Richland, and a charter member of the ROSA Garden Club.
