John F. Oakes Sr., 75, Route 22, died Monday at Oswego Hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park St., Pulaski. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia D.; seven sons, Jon, Syracuse, John F. Jr., Pulaski, Robert C., Gene M. and Ronald D., all of Altmar, Donald K., Camden, and Dean R., Turin; seven daughters, Louise LaCelle and Linda Robinson, both of Pulaski, Betsy Skinner and Patricia Randell, both of Camden, and Susan Haywood, Diane Haywood and Doreen Finch, all of Altmar; a brother, Franklin, Cincinnati, Ohio, 32 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Born Oct. 9, 1920, in Watertown, son of Richard and Irene Bennett Oakes, he lived in Rome and Williamstown before moving to the Altmar area 20 years ago.
Mr. Oakes retired in 1970 after many years with Schaffer Box Co., Syracuse. He was previously employed by Camden Wire Co.
A marriage to Dorothy M. Bancroft in 1941 ended in divorce.
He married Virginia LaRock Aug. 22, 1946.
Mr. Oakes was an Army veteran.
