      Shirley Katie Yerden, 94, of Redfield, NY passed away peacefully at home on March 18, 2025.

      She was born November 24, 1930 in Granby, NY to Ernest and Leita Wava (Loveland) Ouderkirk. Ernest and Leita had 4 children - Don, Francis, Gordon and Shirley. After Leita’s death in 1935, Ernie moved to Redfield and married Blossom Castor. They had three children - Jack, Dale, and Dawn.

      Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Clifton “Pete” Yerden and her three brothers, Donald, Francis and Gordon Ouderkirk.

      Surviving are two brothers, Jack Ouderkirk of Black Lake and Dale (Gwen) Ouderkirk of Sandy Creek, one sister, Dawn Vincent of Currie, NC. Three sons, Randy (Karen) Yerden of Redfield, Gregory (Nancy) Yerden of Redfield, and Steven (Laura) Yerden of Redfield, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

      Shirley was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with family and being outdoors, gardening, hunting, and fishing. She had a top-notch catalog of recipes and enjoyed spending time cooking, canning and keeping her root cellar.

      Heartfelt thanks to her caregivers Carol, Nancy and Darcey for making her later years so special.

      Her family will hold a private ceremony for family on March 29 at 2:00 at Summerville Funeral Home. The burial will be in the spring at Greenboro cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Redfield Fire Department.
