Dies in Cortland
DRYDEN - Mrs. Ethel M.Searls, 69, of 180 Main St., Cortland, died unexpectedly at her home Thursday.
She was born Aug. 23, 1904 at Waterville. the daughter of James and Bertha Balson Turner.
She was a former resident of Cayuga County and had resided in Cortland since shortly after the death of her husband, Leon W. Searls, in 1928.
Surviving are two sons, Donald J. Searls of Virgil and Leon W. Searls of Cortland; five grandchildren, James, Ronald and Leon Searls Jr. of Cortland, Sp. 4 Daniel Searls, with the U.S. Army stationed in Germany, and Mrs. Deborah Davis of McGraw; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ernest Turner of Syracuse, Theodore Turner of Camden, and Raymond Turner of Boston, Mass.; her stepmother, Gladys Morrison Turner of Pulaski; a step-brother, Jay Turner of Altmar; a step-sister, Mrs. Betty Dawley of Pulaski; an uncle, Clifford Balson of Pulaski; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Perkins Funeral Home, Dryden, with the Rev. Hugh Rose, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Cortland, officiating. Interment will be in the Virgil cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
