- Newpaper Obituary - Sunday, March 16, 1997 Times Leader - Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania - Gertrude D. Sheridan, of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at the Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late William and Genevieve Kennedy Mattick. She graduated from Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, in 1933, and the Mercy School of Nursing, Wilkes-Barre, in 1936. Before retiring in 1982, she was employed as a nurse by United Rehabilitation of Wilkes-Barre. She was previously employed as a registered nurse by Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, and Mercy Hospital, Scranton. She also worked as a private duty nurse, for many years, and as Dr. Danishanko's nurse for some time. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke, on Sept. 7, 1983; sisters, Mrs. Genevieve McGilloway and Mrs. Regina Gavin. Surviving are her son, Luke, Wilkes-Barre; a daughter, Gertrude Rayburn, Cleveland, Ohio; two grandsons; sisters, Mrs. Marie Corcoran, Plains Township; Mrs. Dolores Dohman, Wilkes-Barre; Mrs. Theresa Egan, Bear Creek Township; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Corcoran Funeral Home, 20 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Plains. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
