    • Newspaper Obituary - October 31, 1956 Wilkes-Barre Time Leader Evening News - Death Claims T. J. Kinney - Publishing Company Printer Heart Victim - Thomas J. Kinney, of 137 Third Avenue, Kingston, veteran Wilkes-Barre, Publishing Company printer, died last night at 11:15 in Mercy Hospital where he was admitted yesterday afternoon suffering a heart attack. Mr. Kinney, who worked on Times-Leader, The Evening News force in the company's composing room, was stricken ill while at work about 10 days ago and had remained at his home until he was taken to the hospital. A native of Miners Mills and a son of the late James and Anna Fleming Kinney, Mr. Kinney resided in Wymoning Vally all his life. Mr. Kinney had been associated with Newspaper work since the early 1920's. Prior to becoming a printer he worked in the Wilkes-Barre Record business office. About 1922 he began his apprenticeship in the Record composing room and upon becoming a journeyman printer in 1928, started to work in the Times-Leader compoising room. An active member of Wilkes-Barre Typographical Union 187, he served as chapel chairman at the Times-Leader and later in the Wilkes-Barre Publishing Company composing room for a total of 10 years. He was also a delegate to the ITU convention in Louisville in 1937 and had served as a member of the scale committee of Local 187 at various times. He was a member of St. Ignatius Church and its Holy Name Society. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Halford of Larksville, and two sons, Thomas, a member of the Publishing Company composing room force, and Robert; also a brother, Frank, and a sister, Mary, both of Miners Mills section.
