- From the History of Rensselaer Co., New York, by Nathaniel B. Sylvester, (Phila.: Everts & Peck, 1880), p. 465/6, Town of Petersburgh. The Baptist Church of Petersburgh had these first members: Benjamin Thurber, Marbery Henning, Mary Thurber and others. I don't know for sure if it is this Benjamin, but am inclined to think so. 1855 census, Petersburgh, Rens. Co., NY, 1st election district, taken June 1, 1855 (internet extraction) for Benjamin Thurber, age 71, married, b. MA, here 66 years, farmer; Mary, 73, wife, b. MA, here 43 years; Orlando D., 42, child, b. Rens. Co., widower, here 42 years, farmer. He had a Masonic Emblem AE on his grave. He died ae 76-7-20. Benjamin and Mary resided in Petersburg, New York and had three children: Orlando D.; Morgan L.; Maria L.
