Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, October 31, 1906 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski. New York - Melissa A. Brown was born on a farm near Pulaski, October 17, 1824, and died October 26, 1906. She was the daughter of Sylvester and Jemimah Brown. About fifty years ago she was married to Benjamin Franklin Rhodes, and they soon after came to live in the home on Jefferson Avenue where Mrs. Rhodes has since resided, her husband dying about 40 years ago. To them was born one daughter, Carrie, who was wedded to Frank L. Salisbury 24 years ago, and went to Chicago to make her home, but lived only a few months. Mrs. Rhodes was a member of the Congregational church, and a woman possessed of a quiet refined nature, enjoying the esteem and friendship of all in the village where her life has passed. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Louisa E. Hale, two nieces, Misses Flora Hale and Louisa E. Hale, three nephews, Samuel T. Hale, George B. Hale and William S. Hale, all of Buckley, Illinois. The funeral was held Monday, at 2 p.m. from the home, Rev. J. B. Felt officiating. Mrs. Ida E. Craig sang, "I'm a Pilgrim, I'm a Stranger." Among the many beautiful floral tributes was a profusion of white carnations from the Illinois friends, a galax wreath from neighbors on Jefferson Avenue, chrysanthemums from Mrs. Julia A. Stevens and Miss Faith Stevens. Those present from out of town were George B. Hale and Miss Flora E. Hale, of Buckley, Illinois.; Frank L. Salisbury, Ida E. Craig, of Chicago; and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Morris, Thousand Island Park.
