- January 14, 2009 Joseph V. Janacek of East Syracuse, died Wednesday at James Square Nursing Home. He was born in Altmar, NY. He was an East Syracuse volunteer fireman and a member of the American Legion. He was a plant manager for Onondaga County for 33 years and a Navy veteran of WWII. Survivors: one daughter, Jackie Little of DeWitt; one son, John Janacek of East Syracuse; two sisters, Dolores (Herb) Hall and Irene (Burl) Greenfield, all of Altmar; one brother, Roland (Freda) Janacek of Sandy Creek; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Private services for the family will be 9 a.m. Saturday at Forani & Cline Funeral Home, 206 Kinne St., East Syracuse. No calling hours. Please sign the guestbook at syracuse.com/obits
