Virginia D. Oakes, 81, resident of Altmar, died Sunday at the home of her daughter on County Route 22. Virginia was born July 16, 1927, in Saginaw, MI, the daughter of Leon and Myrtle Benton LaRock. She lived in Altmar for many years, previously living in Sandy Creek. She attended Boonville High School. Virginia married John Oakes on August 22, 1946; he died December 25, 1995. She was employed by Rochester Shoe Tree Company in Camden for several years.
Surviving: six sons, John F. Jr. of Mexico, Robert C., Gene M., Ronald D., all of Altmar, Donald K. of Camden, and Dean R. of Boonville; seven daughters, Louise LaCelle and Linda Robinson, both of Pulaski, Betsy Skinner of Camden, Patricia Randall of Central Square, Susan Haywood and Diane Haywood, both of Altmar, and Doreen Smith of Rockhill, SC; three brothers, Roy LaRock of Rome, NY, Ken LaRock of NC, and Donald LaRock of Lacona; three sisters, Alice LaCelle, Gladys LaCelle and Dorothy Skinner, all of Camden; 45 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Altmar. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
