Notes - Joseph was born in Canada. He came to Redfield, NY in the mid 1800s and worked in the woods, saving to purchase land. He went back to Canada to get his wife and children there--only to find she had thought him dead/gone, and taken up with another man. He returned to the US in 1869.
Joseph returned to Redfield, and later met/married Mathilda Savin/Sullivan. They farmed on the Williamstown-Redfield Rd. Both Joseph and his wife spoke French as their native language.
Artibee is the initial spelling of the family name when they are first in the records of Redfield.
Family may be listed as #220/222 on Redfield 1880 census---Joseph and Matilda are correct, but the list of children --Matilda, Benjamin and William has differing dates.
