      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, June 14, 1962 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Rites Held for D. Wheeler, 88 - Services for DeForest D. Wheeler, 88, who died Sunday at the Higgs Nursing Home at Auburn, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Richland. The Rev. Manford G. Williams, pastor, officiated with burial in Richland Cemetery. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Perl (Lillian) Thornhill of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Mrs. Wyon (Doris) Taplin of Richland, Mrs. Lawrence (Rosia) Tilkins of Auburn, with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Robert (Kathryn) Short of Silver Springs, Maryland; two sons, Henry Noah and Raymond A. Wheeler, both of Rome; one brother, Willis Wheeler of Adams Center; 34 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Wheeler was born at Adams on March 2, 1874, and was the son of Albert and Josephine Durham Wheeler. He was educated in the Adams Center school, going to work for the New York Central Railroad many years ago. He was a brakeman, retiring in 1936. He had resided at Adams Center and New Haven and more recently at Richland. His wife, Mrs. De Etta Hyde Wheeler, died in 1955.
