- Newspaper Obituary - March 26, 1956 - Wilkes-Barre Times Leader - Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania - JOHN J. TOBIN, FLORIST, DIES - Funeral Wednesday for Greenhouse Operator - John J. Tobin of 21 St. Mary's Road, Hanover Township, died this morning at 6 at his home following an extended illness. He was the operator of greenhouses in Forty Fort and Lee Park. Mr. Tobin was a veteran of World War I, and a member of Hanover Township American Legion Post 609. He was born in Larksville, son of Mrs. Mary Tobin, Larksville and the late Thomas Tobin. He attended Larksville schools and was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre, and its Holy Name Society. He was also a member of St. Alphonse's Retreat League, Tobyhanna. Mr. Tobin was a member of the Tri-County Florists Association and various State florist associations. Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife, the former Elizabeth Kennedy and the following children; Thomas, Forty Fort, who was associated in business with his father; Mrs. Edward Gilroy, Lakewood, N.J., and June at home. Also surviving are a brother, James, Larksville; three sisters, Miss Clara Tobin, Larksville; Mrs. Alice Boyle, Maryland, and Mrs. Thomas Howard, Carbondale, and four grandchildren. The funeral will be held fromt he Brennan Funeral Home, 133 West Main Street, Plymouth, on Wednesday morning at 9 with a requiem mass at 9:30 in St. Aloysius Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call after 7 tonight.
