Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, September 10, 1970 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York -Funeral services were held Monday, September 7 for Mrs. Hazel B. Vrooman, 76, of Atkinson Road, Pulaski. Mrs. Vrooman died Thursday, September 3 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Watertown. The Rev. Llewellyn Jones officiated at the rites, held at the home of Mrs. Vrooman's daughter, Mrs. George Weber. Burial was in South Richland Cemetery. Mrs. Vrooman was born February 4, 1894 in the Town of Hammond, St. Lawrence County, daughter of Charles and Minnie Felt Drake. She attended school there and was married on December 25, 1915 to Raymond Vrooman, whose death occurred in March, 1962. The Vrooman's operated a farm in the Pitcairn area until moving to Pulaski where they farmed on Atkinson Road. She attended the Fernwood Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Walter C. Vrooman of Maple View and Wendell (Pete) Vrooman of Pulaski; two daughters, Mrs. George (Lillian) Weber of Pulaski and Mrs. Leland (Minnie) Stevens of Tallahassee; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lela Hance of Largo, Florida, Mrs. Ethel Fleming of Watertown and Mrs. Henry (Inez) Bauer of Peekskill.
Hazel Dake was born to Minnie (Felt) Dake and Charles Dake on Feb 4, 1894 in Hammond, NY. She married Ray Vrooman on Christmas Day, 1915. He was born 1 May 1893 and died 23 March 1962. The family farmed in the Pulaski, NY area. She died there on 3 Sept. 1970 and is buried at Fernwood, Pulaski, NY.
Hazel and Ray had five children: Walter married Dorothy Brandt, Minnie (2 May 1918 - 5 Dec 1997) married Leland Stevens, Wendell "Pete" Vrooman married Norma Ladd, (Elizabeth)Lillian married George Weber, Edwin was born 24 Jul 1929 and died in 1951. He was not married.
