    • From "Our Revolutionary Soldiers at Rest," Rhadamant Chapter of the DAR, Sandy Creek, New York, Compiled by Mildred Lustig Reid, 2004.

Obituary--Jan. 1929: The separation that takes place when loved ones are taken away from our homes does not signify that we lose them, but rather our parting with them is only for a little while. They have gone home a little before us, and we are following them. In the mansions of our Father's house, we shall meet again and "catch the thread once more, and finish what we here began." and then the mystery and sorrow will become the source of our greatest peace and comfort. Mrs. Alta C. Crandall was called away January 16, 1929 after a brief illness of heart complications at her home on the Orwell Road southeast of Lacona. Born in Boylston, March 18, 1889, being a daughter of John and Minnie Snyder Crandall. Most of her life has been spent in the town of Sandy Creek. She was united in marriage to N. Foster Mead, May 21, 1908. Six children blessed their union [children named] who with her husband survive her and have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their present sorrow. Her funeral was held at her home Saturday afternoon, Jan. 19th. A large concourse of relatives and friends were present. Rev. T.T. Davies who performed the marriage ceremony at her wedding, officiated. Interment in the family lot in the Wesleyan Cemetery. The beautiful flowers bespoke of the deep love in which one so peacefully asleep and at rest, was held by those who knew her and loved her.
