Vernon A. Peterson, 78, formerly of Cranberry Lake and Sandy Pond, died Sunday at the home of his son, Vernon R. Peterson, Charlotte, N.C.
Mr. Peterson resided at Sandy Pond from 1954 to 1979, where he owned and operated V.A. Peterson Contracting. He then moved to Cranberry Lake where he owned and operated Wildcliffe Lodge until 2000, when he sold it. He had spent winters in Florida for the past 20 years.
Born Dec. 15, 1923, in Pulaski, son of Cecil and Nellie O'Brien Peterson, he attended school in Pulaski.
He married Barbara J. Quinlan on March 29, 1945, in Syracuse. She died June 6, 1997.
Surviving besides his son are four more sons, Alan L., Minoa, Cecil E., Tupper Lake, Stanley D. and Steven D., both of Atlanta, Ga.; five daughters, Joanne Dupont, Pulaski, Lynn Rivers, Greenville, S.C., Vicki Leach, Raleigh, N.C., Vi Guenthner, Altmar, and Sue Whittier, Charlotte; a sister, Viola McKeon, Lakeland, Fla., 26 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A son, Charles E., died May 5, 1972.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home. Spring burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
