      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, June 6, 1878 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - Woods - In this village, May 24, 1878, Sally Wait Woods, aged 93 years, relict of the late John Woods. The deceased was the daughter of Thaddeus Wait, Esq., of New Fane, Vermont, and was born January 6th, 1785. She was married to John Woods, September 15th, 1806. They came to this town in 1809, where both spent the remainder of their days. Her husband, John Woods, died December 2d, 1852, and was reputed to be, at that time, the wealthiest person then resident in the town. She continued to occupy the homestead with some one of her sons until her decease. She has lived to see the fifth generation, and at the celebration of her ninetieth birthday could number one hundred lineal descendants. A greatly honored and deeply loved mother and grandmother, in all the relations of life affectionate, kind, helpful, faithful and true. Active and industrious through life, she retained, to a wonderful degree, both her physical and mental faculties, remarkable especially for her clear, strong and accurate memory. November 22d, 1868, the deceased united by public profession with the Congregational church of Pulaski. But she dated the beginning of her religious experience to a period nearly fifty years previous; and in the closing years of her life spoke often of the satisfaction she felt in this set of public avowal of the Lord Jehovah, and the Savior her Redeemer, and in the communion service, not only as fulfilling a conscious obligation, but also as a privilege of joy, bringing strength and light to her soul. In later years she spent much time in reading the Bible and sacred hymns until her eyesight failed her, a loss she especially bewailed, because most of all it deprived her of this privilege. The burden and privations of old age she endured with great patience; but was more than willing to depart, feeling it was better to depart, and that to die was gain. The wants and helplessness of her last days were ministered to with unfailing and duty and filial tenderness; and quietly, peacefully as last she fell asleep in Jesus. In the last days of her life she seemed to herself to meet again her early associates, and their names were often on her lips. They were near, the meeting has come. She has reached the shored of a blessed immortality; for it is written by the pen of the divine inspiration "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord."
