    • Newspaper Obituary - February 2, 1978 - Thousand Island Suns - Alexandria Bay, New York - Obituaries - Mrs. Eva. VanAlstyne - LaFargeville - Mrs. Eva M. VanAlstyne, 77, Maple Street, widow of Stewart VanAlstyne, died early Wednesday morning, Jan. 25 at Mercy Hospital, Watertown, where she had been a patient since Sunday. She had been in failing health for two years. The funeral was Saturday at her home, the Rev. Durward Winner, pastor, Turin Methodist Church, formerly of LaFargeville, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Depauville Cemetery. Mrs. VanAlstyne is survived by two sons, Walter Stewart, Syracuse, and Eugene VanAlstyne, Chaumont, three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Winifred) Ostrander, Brewerton, Mrs. Nicholas (Ella May) Kendrat, Sandy Creek, and Mrs. Dennis (Sharon) Connell, Clayton, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; cousins, four stepdaughters, Mrs. Ralph (Doris) Matthews, Clayton, Mrs. Maurice (Margaret) Daily, LaFargeville, Mrs. Paul (Lois) Getman, Clayton, and Mrs. Roger (Pauline) Walti, LaFargeville, and several step-grandchildren. She was born at Altmar, Nov 23, 1900, the only child of Dennis and Maude Schram Nichols. She was educated in rural schools. She married Ivan Frank Stewart, and the couple lived in Sandy Creek. She later Moved to Depauville and married Stewart VanAlstyne on Feb. 23, 1940. Both Mr. Stewart and Mr. VanAlstyne died in 1968.
