- Mrs. Catherine L. Steward, who was
born on October 25,1843 at Marshall
Michigan, the daughter of Godwin
and Delia A. Dolan.
In 1869, Mr. and Mrs Dolan returned
to New York and remained there
until 1872, when they moved to
Marshall county, Kansas and located
in Irving. Catherine Dolan received
her education in the schools in New
York, and there she grew to woman-
hood. She came with her parents to
Atchison, Kansas.
In 1870 she was married to Herbert
Hawk, who was born in 1837 and
passed away in 1878. To this union
three children were born , Mrs. Delia
Luedke, Mrs. Emily Layton and Alfred
Hawk, all residents of Irving, Kansas.
Mr. Hawk moved to Kansas in 1857
and located on a homestead in
Atchison county. At the outbreak of
the Civil War he enlisted in Tenth
Kansas Regiment and served to the
end of the war, and saw much active
service.
Some years after the death of Herbert
Hawk, Mrs. Hawk was married to Silas
Steward, and to this union was born
one son, Harry Steward.
She was a member of the Episcopal
Church, and of the Order of the
Eastern Star.
