Philip J. Damon, 71, Colonial Manor Apartments, died Thursday morning at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Syracuse.
Mr. Damon was a retired automotive mechanic at Fort Drum.
Born Oct. 11, 1929, in Watertown, son of Clifford and Genevieve Farmer Damon, he attended Sacred Heart School, North Junior High School and Watertown High School.
An Army veteran, he served from 1945 to 1947 and then again from 1950 to 1954, serving in Korea for two years.
He married Mary Lee Sayer on Dec. 11, 1953, in Gouverneur. The marriage ended in annulment. He married Frances Rice on Dec. 3, 1955, in Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart with the Rev. Benoit C. Dostie officiating.
Mr. Damon was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Adams, and the Lincoln League and a life member of the North Side Improvement League.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons and their wives, Frederic and Linda, Adams Center, and Daniel and Michelle, Manhattan; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Suzanne Pierson, Grafton, W.Va., Theresa Brethen, St. Petersburg, Fla., Jacqueline and Ronald Mack, Anchorage, Alaska, and Jennifer and Wayne Covey, Watertown; four brothers, Richard S., Oklahoma City, Okla., Clifford S., Brownville, Ronald D., Watertown, and Dale S., Dexter; two sisters, Mrs. Howard (Lucille) Rowe and Mrs. Edward (Jenny) Miller both of Watertown; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart with Deacon Edward Miller officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to the North Side Improvement League.
