    • Newspaper Obituary - April 4, 2002 Evening Tribune - Hornell, New York - JOHN C. DIMON - DANSVILLE/PHOENIX -- John C. Dimon, 89, formerly of Dansville, passed away early Wednesday morning (April 3, 2002) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, after being transferred from the Livingston County SNF in Mt. Morris, where he had been a resident for the past few years. He was born in Palermo on Feb. 25, 1913, a son of the late Adelbert and Bessie Kingsly Dimon. On April 8, 1935, he was married to the former Vivian Ruth Thompson, who predeceased him on Sept. 4, 1998. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Una Evans, Donald and Earl Dimon. John was a graduate of Baldwinsville Fee Academy in 1931. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. in North Carolina during 1934. He retired from the Phoenix Central School District in 1976 as the head custodian. After retiring, John and Vivian moved to Dunedin, Fla., until moving back to Dansville in 1993. He was raised in Callimachus Lodge #369 of the F & AM of Phoenix, N.Y. on Jan. 7, 1954, and later transferred membership to the Phoenix Lodge #115 of the F & AM of Dansville. He was also a member of the Kate J. Jackson Court #39 of the Order of the Amaranth, Past Royal Patron of the Deborah Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, both of Dansville. John was also an active member for over 44 years of the Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department, where he also served as treasurer for several years. John is survived by his daughter, Mary Jane (Sheldon) Ford of Mt. Morris; his son, Dr. Carl A. (Susan) Dimon of Grand Prairie, Texas; a sister, Dorothy (Ralph) Wolfe of Baldwinsville; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville. Interment will be Monday at 1 p.m., with a graveside service in Phoenix Rural Cemetery, Phoenix. Contributions may be made to the Masonic Brotherhood, c/o Phoenix Lodge #115 F & AM, 68 Elizabeth St., Dansville, N.Y. 14437.

Born in Palermo, he lived in Dunedin, Fla., and on State Street in Phoenix before moving to Florida in 1985 and to Dansville in 1993. He graduated from Baldwinsville Free Academy in 1931. He retired in 1976 as head custodian for Phoenix Central Schools after 17 years. He was a former member of Callimachus Lodge 369 Free & Accepted Masons in Phoenix and was a member of Phoenix Lodge 115 Free & Accepted Masons in Dansville. He was a 44-year member of Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department and was treasurer for several years. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in North Carolina in 1934. His wife, the former Vivian R. Thompson, died in 1998. Survivors: A daughter, Mary Ford of Mount Morris; a son, Dr. Carl A. of Grand Prairie, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Wolfe of Baldwinsville; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
