- F.L. Blount, Area Farmer, Succumbs at 82
F. Leland Blount, 82, of the North Ridge Road, Lacona, died Tuesday, March 18, 1975 In the House of the Good Samaritan, after a long illness.
Born November 2, 1892, at Pine Meadows, in the Town of Orwell, the son of Andrew T. and Nellie Ackley Blount, he had lived in the Sandy Creek-Lacona section since 1898, graduating from Sandy Creek High School in the Class of 1913. While he was attending high school he was a member of the earliest basketball team from the local school.
Mr. Blount attended Cornell University, Ithaca, for two years, majoring in agriculture.
He married Doris L. Wheeler of Mannsville, June 26, 1919, and for forty years the couple owned and operated a farm on the North Ridge Road, until Mr. Blount retired because of ill health. In 1928, he was named a Master Farmer by the New York State Farm Bureau for his outstanding dairy records.
Mr. Blount was a seventy vear member of the United Methodist Church of Sandy Creek, and a member of the Sandy Creek Grange, No. 127
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Doris Blount, two sons, T. Richard Blount, Lacona, and Derrill E. Blount, Mannsville; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren. Two cousins, Mrs. Florence B. Parker of Naples, Fla.; and Howard P. Blount, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Renshaw Bay, are also among his survivors.
The funeral for Mr. Blount was held last Friday at the Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, with Rev. Ivan Greenfield, pastor of the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek.
