John E. Sampson Dies AT Age of 77
Descendant of Pioneers had lived in Section 50 years; Rites Monday
Floyd, Oct 6 - John E. Sampson, 77 resident of Floyd for 50 years and a descendant of the fifth generation of pioneers who came to this country in the Mayflower, died at his home at 6:30 this morning. He had been in poor health for the past five years. He was born at Pratham Town of Mexico, Oswego County, March 19, 1862, a son of John and Evalina Anderson Sampson. Following the death of his first wife, Maria C. Olmstead Sampson, in 1884, he married Ella F. Goodman, the ceremony taking place December 21k, 1886. The couple celebrated their golden wedding in 1936.
Mr. Sampson was a carriage maker by trade and for the past 15 years had been employed by the Town of Floyd. He attended the Methodist Church and was a staunch Republican in politics. He had taken a keen interest in church and community affairs.
Surviving besides his widow are two sons by his first marriage, e. R. Sampson of Floyd; and three daughters, by his second marriage, Miss Blanche E. Sampson, Mrs. Thomas G. Evans and Miss Lena E. Sampson, all of Floyd. He leaves also seven grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. C. E. Silver of Waukegan, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at his late home on Monday at 2 p.m. and burial will be made at Wright Settlement Cemetery.
