- M rs. Sharon L. Wyda, 47, of Ridge Avenue, Kingston, passed away peacefully Thursday at Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit, Wilkes-Barre, after a two year battle with ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Sharon was born in Kingston on Nov. 8, 1957, a daughter of the late Doris (Stevens) and Francis Gabel, who survives her of Kingston. She graduated from Wyoming Valley West School District.
She was employed as bookkeeper for Fashion Floor & Carpet, Kingston, and also Puhl Construction. She was an active member of the Swoyersville Sailors as a drill adviser for several years. She enjoyed reading, listening to music and especially close involvement with her family and life.
Surviving besides her father are her husband of 27 years, Stephen A.; daughters Claire Kozich, Edwardsville; Sarah Wyda, Edwardsville; Caitlyn Wyda, Kingston; Abigail Szymanski, New Mexico; sister Jane White, Utah; brother Mark Gabel, Kingston; three grandchildren Michael, Daniel and Alexander; three sons-in-law; seven nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday from the Saint Therese Church, 35 Old River Road, Wilkes-Barre, with Monsignor Francis Callahan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, Northeastern Region, 500 Office Center Drive, suite 340, Fort Washington, PA 19034-3124.
Arrangements are by the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Funeral Home Inc., 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort.
