Morton, 82, well known guide and commercial fisherman in the Port Ontario-Selkirk basin area, died Tuesday at the Austin nursing home, Lacona, after a short illness. He suffered a stroke last Friday night and failed to rally. Except for service with the old Life Saving Service at Charlotte, he had always made his home in the vicinity of Port Ontario. It was a family tradition to serve as a life saver and then turn to fishing. Mr. Morton and his brother, "Lonny" were experts in sturgeon fishing and had their set lines in Mexico Bay from Stony Point to Nine Mile Point, catching and shipping many of these huge fish to the New York market. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Allen and Mrs. Ernest Stafford, Pulaski; his brother, Alonzo Morton, Port Ontario, and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Foster funeral home, Pulaski, with burial in Daysville cemetery.
