    • Obituary for Betty Jane White
      Betty Jane White (Calkins) age 99, of Kalkaska passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2023.
      She was born to the late Fay and Ila (Kimball) Calkins in McBain, Michigan on July 28, 1924.
      Betty married James F. White on November 15, 1941, in Lapeer, Michigan. He preceded her in passing in November of 2021. She is survived by all her eight children, Michael (Lani) White, Alan (Lina) White, Carl (Esther) White, Jeffery White, Brian (Luanne) White, Susan (Randy) Hopkins, Peggy (James) Sowulewski, and Lisa (James) Ramsberger.

      Also surviving twenty grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, and one more great-great grandchild on the way.

      She was preceded in passing by two sisters Virginia Boshaw, and Connie Twigg; and one grandson Christopher Miller.

      Betty was a Den mother to Cub Scouts while living in Almont and Standish. She was also associated with the Democratic Party, as a secretary to the Arenac and Kalkaska County Democratic Parties. Living in Standish, she was employed by an Automotive Harnessing Company for fourteen years.

      After moving to Kalkaska, she crocheted many afghans for family. She helped care for her parents, Fay and Ila Calkin and her aunt Alice Nave.

      Betty joined the Genealogy Group, and she researched four cemeteries and recorded them for books. Her final accomplishment was to research and copy four family’s genealogy, the White, Calkins, Kimball, and Sutton. These were also made into books for family.

      The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Wolfe-O’Neill Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

      Interment will follow in Garfield Township Cemetery.
