Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 26, 1891 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - In this village, February 21, 1891, Thomas J. Bumpus, aged 83 years. Deceased was born in Herkimer county, New York, May 29th, 1808. He came to this town, Richland, with his father, Nathan Bumpus, in 1815 and settled near Holmesville, on or near the farm now owned by T. R. Atwood. He first engaged in the milling business, and owned the Hawley mill; afterward he kept a meat market with Henry Cross, and later started the first grocery store in this village in company with D. O. Knowlton. He was known as a man of sterling integrity and was highly respected in the community.
