- Newspaper Obituary - November 15, 2008 - Syracuse Post Standard - DEMPSTER - Duane "Duke" Dempster - November 13, 2008 - Duane "Duke" Dempster, 71, of Constantia, fought a very courageous battle with bladder cancer, only to succumb to it on Thursday at University Hospital. Duke is the son of the late Gertrude and Harry Dempster. He resided in Con-stantia since 1978. He worked at Crouse-Hinds as a heavy equipment operator for several years. The last job Duke had was helping his daughter and son-in-law with Kevin's Garbage Service. Duke was also known on the CB as Mountainman. Duke was predeceased by his brothers, Frank, Clarence "Jack," and Donald "Red" Dempster; his sister, Dorothy "Peggy" Golf; and a grandson, Jamie Dempster. He is survived by his children, Tracey (Tom) Laughlin of Cleveland, Kathy (Jasper) Lemon of Syracuse, Rebecca Dempster of Syracuse, Der-inda (Kevin Boyden) Demp-ster of Constantia and Duane (Carol) Dempster of Cicero; sisters, Patricia (Paul) Dyer of Brewerton and Barbara Neville of Bridgeport; sisters-in-law, June and Joyce Demp-ster, both of East Syracuse; and grandchildren, Jay, Robie, Britnie, Danilo, David Lemon, Kira, Jessica D., Ashley, Dylan Dempster, Jessica M., Meghan and James Dempster; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling Hours: 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Traub Funeral Home, 684 N. Main Street, Central Square. Service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, immediately following the calling hours. A private burial will be held at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
