- Terry E Crast Obituary
Terry E. Crast, 89, of Lacona, NY, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, following a brief illness. Born on February 12, 1936, at the family home on Wheat Hill in Lacona, he lived a full life rooted in hard work, public service, and deep devotion to his family. Terry began his working life as a farmer, purchasing his first tractor in 1953 — a reflection of his strong work ethic and lifelong connection to the land. He graduated from Sandy Creek Central School in 1954. After serving in the Naval Reserves, he went on to work for Blount Lumber Company in Lacona and General Electric in Syracuse before beginning a 20-year career as a New York State Trooper. After retiring from the State Police, Terry continued to serve his community as a sitting judge for the Town of Sandy Creek, a role he held for the past 41 years. In recent years, he also served as a judge for the Town of Boylston. A generous man with a deep love for the outdoors, Terry enjoyed spending time in the woods, hunting, fishing, attending family events, and working with tractors and sawmills — passions that stayed with him throughout his life. Recently he had become fascinated with the genealogy of the Crast family, exploring local cemeteries and historical societies to learn more about his family’s roots. He is survived by his four sons: Timothy (Teresa), Patrick (Julie), James (Sheila Dugan), and Daniel (Sheryl); nine grandchildren: Melisa (Jeremy) Nelson, Jennifer (Ron) Grinnell, TJ (Mackenzie) Crast, Jamieson (Abaigael) Crast, Jared (Lillian) Crast, Jonathan (Meghan) Crast, Kristy Crast, Chlarissia Crast, and Sierra Crast; and eleven great-grandchildren: Taylor & Paige Grinnell; Natalie, Maggie & Noah (on the way) Crast; Waylon & Stella Crast; Peter & Arya Crast; Maive Crast; and Emerson Jones. He is also survived by brothers Lonnie and Kimberly (Laurie) and sister Kayrene. Terry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marilyn (Cheney) Crast; his infant daughter, Kristi; his parents, Ivan and Thelma (Kinney) Crast; his brother, Larry; and his sister, Patricia Reid. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 23, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Summerville Funeral Home on Harwood Drive in Sandy Creek, with a funeral service to follow immediately. Burial will take place at Boylston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choosing. Terry will be remembered for his strength, service, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and community.
