- Allen moved to Orwell, NY. He was in the 110th infantry in the Civil War, enlisting on August 1, 1862 in Orwell at age 32. He was mustered into Company C on August 25, 1862 and discharged for disability September 10, 1862 at Paterson Park Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. (Orwell Veterans Memorial Souv., 1910)
Following the war Allen was married to Mrs. Marion Potter, a widow of Charles Potter. Marion had a son J. Charles Potter from her previous marriage, born August 3, 1855 in Wisconsin. He was living with Allen and Marion in 1880 in Sandy Creek, New York along with his wife Addie, age 20, and son John C. Potter, born in October 1879,
John later was married a second time to Lillian Storms from Canada, who also had a son Roy. Following Allen's death Lillian was remarried to Albert J. Lobdell, and together they had a son Paul K. Lobdell, (1909-93).
Eva Platt was the executrix of his estate.
