- February 4, 2012 Richard "Dick," born January 25, 1921, in Oswego, NY, passed peacefully at his home in Sandy Pond on Saturday, February 4, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Richard's parents came from Germany. He grew up in Oswego, NY, where he graduated from Oswego College of Industrial Arts and purchased Bower Printing Company, which he ran until 1977. Richard was a veteran of WWII, where he served as a mechanic while stationed in the Philippines. He continued to use his strong hands-on skills throughout his professional and personal life. Richard was an avid fisherman and hunter. Those who knew him were familiar with his passion for collecting "antiquities!" Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma; children Richard Jr. (Nancy), Donna (Jim) Lo Dolce, Susan Mooney (fiance Tom), Thomas (companion Jackie) and David (Kathy); sister, Louise Stafford; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Regina and Leopold; siblings Edward, Frieda Winchell, Walter and Grace Rubley. Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a short service, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Summerville Funeral Home, 1997 Harwood Drive, Sandy Creek, followed by a gathering and buffet at the Lacona VFW, Salisbury St. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Friends of Oswego County Hospice, 70 Bunner Street, Oswego, NY 13126-3309.
