Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, December 21, 1932 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Harry Bumpus Passes After Long Illness - Harry M. Bumpus passed away at his home on Erie street, this village, at 2:30 Tuesday morning following a long illness. He had been in ill health nearly a year and was thought to be gradually improving, but he suffered a serious heart attack late Thursday evening last. His condition showed improvement Saturday and the family felt much encouraged, but he became worse Sunday and very little hope was then held for his recovery. Mr. Bumpus was born in this village May 4, 1874, son of the late Delavan Bumpus and Frances Bumpus Steele, and had always resided here. He was foreman of the pencil box department of the Charles Tollner Sons Company for many years. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of this village, Pulaski Lodge I.O.O.F. No. 648, and Rising Sun Rebekah Lodge No. 149, and was always active in lodge affairs. In civic affairs he also took an active part and was at one time a member of the village board and of the Ringgold Fire Company. On October 9, 1895 he married Miss Amy E. Knowlton of this village, who survives him. Other survivors are a son, Francis M. Bumpus of Syracuse, his mother, Mrs. Frances Bumpus Steele, of this village, two grandchildren, Mary and Charles Bumpus of Oswego; a cousin, Mrs. Roy Stoddard of Mexico, and an aunt, Mrs. Robert Howard of Elmira There will be prayer at the house at 1:30 and services at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, Rev. John W. Warren officiating. Members of Pulaski Lodges Odd Fellows and Rebekah's will attend in a body. Burial in Pulaski cemetery.
