Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, November 20, 1901 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - John E. Salisbury - The death of John E. Salisbury occurred in Chicago, Saturday, November 16. The remains were brought to this village, Monday, by a brother, Smith E. Salisbury, of Chicago, who was joined in Syracuse by a sister, Mrs. Nelson Alsever. who with her husband and son. John Alsever, came to this village. The remains were met at the station by members of the Pulaski Lodge, F. & A. M. who escorted the funeral procession to the M. E. church where brief funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. O. Barnes and the Masonic burial service was recited by the master and officers of the Lodge. Owing to the failure of a sister, Mrs. J. A. Morris, of Thousand Island Park. to arrive the body was deposited in the vault and burial took place yesterday. Among the friends present at the funeral was Mr. Smith E. Salisbury, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Alsever, John A. Alsever and Mr. William E. Baldwin, of Syracuse; Dr. Baldwin, of New Hampshire; Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Baldwin. of Sandy Creek; Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Morris, of Thousand Island Park. Mr. Salisbury was the son of Dewey Child Salisbury and Phoebe Ann Clark Salisbury. He was born February 20, 1849. He attended Pulaski Academy, Falley Seminary and the University of Michigan, after which he studied law in Syracuse, being clerk in the law office of Sedgwick & Kennedy. He was admitted to the bar and began the practice of law in Chicago in partnership with his brother, Frank L. Salisbury. For years he was much of an invalid, suffering from the effects of an early injury. For nearly a year prior to last March he lived with his sister, Mrs. Alsever, in Syracuse. Besides Mrs. Alsever and Mrs. Morris there is one surviving sister, Mrs. Ida Salisbury Craig. of Chicago. Three brothers survive, Smith E. Salisbury and Frank L. Salisbury, of Chicago and William E. Salisbury. of Toledo. The following is from the Syracuse Journal, Monday evening: "What appears to have been a strange case of telepathy in the lives of twins ended with the death of John E. Salisbury, in Chicago on Saturday. In early life he sustained a serious injury, which in years after caused him considerable suffering and finally resulted in his death. His trouble was not constant, but periodical, and strangely enough, his twin sister, Mrs. Nelson Alsever of this city, always suffered in sympathy with him. When he was 10 years old the boy injured one of his knees, from the effects of which it was supposed for years that he had fully recovered, but later he was attacked by acute pains, which it was believed, were the result of the injury in early life. After several of these periodical attacks it was remarked that the twin sister suffered at the same time. On Saturday Mrs. Alsever was depressed in spirits and she felt that her brother must be likewise suffering. Her condition grew gradually worse in the afternoon and about 4 o'clock she received a telegram from Chicago announcing the death of John."
