      Newspaper Obituary - Monday, March 29, 1971 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - C. S. Covey Dead at 83 - Pulaski - Chauncey S. Covey, 83, Richland, died at 11:37 am. Saturday in Mercy Hospital, Watertown, where he had been a patient four and a half weeks. The funeral Will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Rev. Virgil Hager, pastor of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., today. An Odd Fellows service will be conducted at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ellen Widrig Covey, a daughter, Mrs. Maynard (Florence) Jones, Herkimer, born of a previous marriage; a step-daughter, Mrs. Charles (Florence) Gerdon, Richland; a step-son, Clinton Balch, Cortland; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Born March 14, 1888, in Carthage, a son of Charles and Helen Bellinger Covey, he attended school in Old Forge and during early life was a steamboat engineer in Old Forge, operating in the logging business. Later, he worked in Syracuse at General Electric as a maintenance foreman. From 1955 to 1969, he was an engineer at Rail City in the Town of Sandy Creek. Mr. Covey's first wife died. On August 21, 1955, he married Mrs. Ellen Widrig Balch and they lived in Richland since. Mr. Covey was a member of Pulaski Lodge 649, I. O.O.F., and an honorary member and, for the past 14 years, treasurer of the Richland Volunteer Fire Department.
