Mr. Maltby was born in this town the 14th day of September, 1827, and the whole of his nearly 81 years have been spent in his native town, and most of that long life has been spent on Lake street where he died. He was twice married, his first wife being Helen Doane, from which union issued three children, a son, Bernice, who died in young manhood, a daughter, Lettie, who died in childhood, and Flora, who died in young womanhood. Early in life Mr. Maltby united with the Congregational church and at the time of his death was the oldest member on the roll, having been connected with the society over fifty years. For many years Mr. Maltby was a leader in the choir and in every way stood by the church and assisted in a manner which showed his love for the institution. The funeral will be held from the home this afternoon at four o'clock, Rev. J. B. Felt, of Newark Valley, who was Mr. Maltby's pastor for nine years, will have charge of the service.
