Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 30, 1950 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Rites Held for Donald Mattison, Former Resident - Donald R. Mattison, 40, a former resident of Pulaski and well known in athletics during his high school career, died suddenly Thursday in the New York Central Roundhouse restaurant in Utica. Dr. H. J. Haberer, coroner, said death was due to a heart ailment. Funeral services were held from his home at 200 Holland avenue, Utica, Saturday, at 2 p.m. and from the home of his sister, Mrs. Harry Tollerton, in Pulaski at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Many of his former friends and associates attended the services. Interment will be made in Pulaski cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ethyl Lewis Mattison; a daughter, Carol Jean, 8; a sister, Mrs. Harry (Ruby) Tollerton, Pulaski; a brother, John, of Buffalo, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Mattison was born in Pulaski, November 7, 1909, the son of John and Antoinette Valentine Mattison. He graduated from the Pulaski Academy where he starred in baseball and basketball. He was also a member of the old Panther baseball team. He entered Clarkston college at Potsdam and later transferred to Cortland Normal school where he again excelled in athletics. He was employed by the Curtis-Wright Airplane Company, at Buffalo for several years and in 1946 went to Utica as district manager of Better Brushes, Inc. He had been employed by the New York Central for about one year.
