Deceased Name: HAROLD F. EDICK , PHARMACIST, DIES AT AGE 86
Harold F. Edick, 86, Goose Bay, a noted Alexandria Bay pharmacist, died Saturday afternoon in the Edward John Noble Hospital, Alexandria Bay, where he had been a patient since January 1987.
There will be no funeral or calling hours. Burial will be in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Parish. Arrangements are with the Giltz Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay.
Memorial donations may be made to the Skilled Nursing Unit of Edward John Noble Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Stella; a daughter, Susan Jane Hudon, Alexandria Bay; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild, and two cousins, Bob Edick and Mrs. Bob (Ann) Hazard, both of Parish.
Mr. Edick was born July 19, 1902, in Parish, a son of Herbert and Ella Scranton Edick. He moved to Sandy Creek in 1914 and was graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1922. He was graduated in 1925 from the Albany College of Pharmacy, where he was a member of Kappa Psi fraternity.
He married Ruth Pike in 1925. The marriage ended in divorce in 1949. He married Stella Hale on May 5, 1951.
He started working at the Zoller Pharmacy in Alexandria Bay in 1926. Mr. Edick purchased the Corner Pharmacy Feb. 1, 1931, and also owned the 1,000 Islands Liquor Store from the repeal of Prohibition until May 1969.
Mr. Edick was a past president of the Alexandria Bay Rotary Club and a past member of the village board of trustees, the Alexandria Central School Board of Education and the fire department. He was a member of the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles, where he served as an elder and a deacon.
He was raised in Masonic Lodge 5645 of Sandy Creek on Jan. 10, 1924, and received his 50-year pin and certificate from the Grand Lodge of the State of New York in May 1974. He joined the Media Shrine Temple in Watertown on May 21, 1943, and became a lifelong member of the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children in 1945. He had belonged to the Royal Order of Jesters since July 2, 1945.
Mr. Edick was a member of the Admiralty of the Thousand Islands, the Pharmacy Society of New York and the Association of Retail Druggists and had been a member of the Alexandria Bay Chamber of Commerce since 1931, having served as a director for many years.
In 1976, he received the chamber of commerce's Citizen of the Year'' award. He also received two awards during the years from the Alexandria Bay Rotary Club for dedicated service to the community.
