  • Notes
    • Albert E. Lester was born in 1851 on his parent's farm in Boylston,Oswego County, NY, about 10 miles from the shores of Lake Ontario.
His father Samuel, along with grandparents James and Olive, came from Columbia county in eastern NYS to settle in the western Oswego County area 20 years before Albert's birth. He married Albert's mother Mary Jane and settled in her home county of Oswego where they raised their family.

His father Samuel and Albert's two older brothers went off to fight with the Union Army about 1862; leaving Albert and brother Loren, along with their elderly grandfather James the "men of the house".

By war's end both Albert's mother, Mary Jane and grandmother Olive had died. He worked carpentry jobs about town with his brother Levi until they both decided to head west for a new start.

Levi took his young family and settled in Kansas. Albert worked his way through Minnesota and finally settled in Dunn County Wisconsin where he wed Mary E. Rightman in 1883 and raised her daughter Jennie and the seven more children born to them.
In 1901 Albert's wife left him to marry another and had a son in 1903. She died of unknown causes in 1908.

In 1910 and 1911 Albert lived on a land claim outside of Sidney, Montana, near the Yellowstone River where his daughter Phoebe and husband Archie Kirkland also claimed land. The Kirklands stayed in Montana, but Albert returned to Wisconsin by 1920.

He died in 1931 as a resident of a county home for the infirmed.
