    • Newspaper Obituary - Tuesday, September 2, 1884 Jefferson County Journal - Adams, New York - Mannsville - Mrs. Zera VanWormer is very low and not expected to live.

      Newspaper Obituary - October 28, 1884 Jefferson County Journal - Daughter of Phineas Stewart, wife of Zerah Van Wormer, mother of Austin, who predeceased her in the service of his country. Surviving besides her husband are two sons and a daughter.

      Newspaper Obituary - Tuesday, October 28, 1884 Jefferson County Journal - Adams, New York - The funeral of Mrs. Zerah VanWormer was held at the M. E. Church last Friday conducted by Rev. J. H. Walton. The deceased was the daughter of Phineas Stewart, an early settler of this region, who moved west twenty-five years ago and became prosperous and wealthy. Her disease was lingering and her sufferings intense as she neard the change. Many years ago she joined the M. E. Church and during the last illness received the convenants and died with Christian fortitude and resignation. Mr. VanWormer was her constant attendant, and spent many moths of almost sleepless days and nights inallevatiating her sufferings. The deceased was on terms of friendship, peace and good will with her neighbors and lived happy and content while enjoing the sweets of home life, the society of her children and the love of her ever faithful companion. She lost one son, a pensioner of the rebellion who died from diseased contracted in the service oh his country, the late Austin VanWormer, of Adams, late Co. E. 10th. N. Y. Heavy Artillery, and leaves two sons, one daughter and her husband as the survivors of the family in this place. She was buried at Maplewood, aged about 63 years.
