- Online Obituary - A prayer service for Cathy A. Bishop will be Wednesday, 10:15 am at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, followed by an 11 am Mass of the Resurrection at Holy Family Church with Rev. Steven Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 pm 4 pm and 7 pm 9 pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Jefferson Co., the Alzheimers Association, the Holy Family Religious Education Program, or to a trust fund to be established for her daughter Alicia c/o Yvonne Gebo, 254 North Hamilton St., Watertown, NY 13601. Miss Bishop, 64, of Hunt St., passed away Saturday at Community General Hospital, Syracuse, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born in Watertown, August 17, 1946, a daughter to Robert and Louise VanWormer Bishop. She graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy in 1964. Following her graduation, she worked at her family restaurants, Dans Place, the Brookside Diner and also at the St. Patricks Childrens Home until it closed. She later worked at the House of Gee and Household Finance. Cathy was the Director of Christian Formation at Holy Family Church for the past 20 years, and held that position at the time of her passing. She was presented the Light of Christ award in 2007 by then Bishop Cunningham of the Diocese of Ogdensburg in recognition of her outstanding work in Christian Formation. Cathy was a member of Holy Family Church and CORE, with the Diocese of Ogdensburg. Miss Bishop served as a host for Catholic Charities to over five single mothers until their babies were born. She provided a foster home to many children in the community, providing through her programs and generosity, gifts at birthdays and Christmas for the children at the Jefferson County Childrens Home, the Jeff Co. DPAO, and Catholic Charities. Cathy is survived by her daughter, Alicia L., age 9, at home; her mother, Louise, Samaritan Keep Home. Three brothers, Robert and Kim, Texas; Lester and his companion, Lori Fox, Clayton; Ronald and his companion, Melanie Gorczyca, Georgia. A sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Frederick Piche, Brandon, FL. Her Aunt Lucille VanWormer, Watertown. Several nieces, great nieces and a great nephew. Her close friend and husband, Yvonne and Steven Gebo, who have provided her with care, comfort and a home for the past year. Cathy was predeceased by her father Robert in 1981, a sister Theresa (Terry) Windover in 1982, and two brothers Billy and Randy in infancy. Condolences may be made online at www.reedbenoit.com.
